Praise, Prayer and Pondering, September 21, 2011

This information has already been distributed to Pastors, leaders and EMMC church offices. If there is information, prayer requests, updates and events that you would like to have communicated with the rest of the EMMC / Go Mission! family, please send that information to me at [email protected] by 9am Wednesday mornings, and it will be included in the current-week distribution.

Prayer and Praise! – Theology Committee
The met last Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday (September 13 & 14). The group has representation from all six Regions. In that mix is also a variety of experience and understanding. Continue to pray for the committee as they work to develop and discern our Core Values and Mission Statement.

Praise and Prayer! – James and Darlene Peters, Spanish Lookout EMMC, Belize
Praise God that James, Darlene and their four children arrived safely in Spanish Lookout, and are adjusting to their new surroundings. James was commissioned as Associate Pastor in the congregation on August 28. Pray that their ministry will be Kingdom building.

Praise! – Xchange 2011
Thank God for the individuals who gathered on September 17 at Morrow Church in Winnipeg. In large and smaller group settings, they learned about church governance, taking minutes at meetings, cross cultural ministries, developing church websites. The presentations prompted great discussion and interaction. Praise God for the spirit of encouragement and willingness to learn and share. It was a wonderful time of connecting and learning.

Prayer! – Renetta Siemens
Pray for Renetta and her driver Elvira Thiessen, as they will be traveling to Saskatchewan, leaving Sept 22 and visiting supporting churches. Renetta is an associate missionary with Overseas Missionary Fellowship. She ministers in Davao City, Philippines, hosting tribal young people in her home when they come to the city for further education. Pray for Renetta as she has been experiencing some medical challenges.

Praise and Prayer! – Newell EMM Church, Iowa
The Newell EMMC Church is looking at the possibility of relocating from Newell to Storm Lake, a nearby, thriving community where many of their attendees are living and where there are more opportunities to reach into the multi-cultural community. Please pray for the leadership of the church as they pray and plan. Praise God for the opportunities they have to ministry to their community.

Around the World
Religious tensions in Nigeria have been on the rise in recent months. An Islamic extremist group that claimed responsibility for the August 26 bombing of a U.N. Building in Abuja, Nigeria, claimed responsibility for recent bombings of churches and attacks on Christians in Northern Nigeria. These attacks left 130 dead and more injured. Please pray for those currently in danger of attack and for those who have lost homes, businesses, church buildings and loved ones in recent attacks. Pray for a God-given attitude of love and forgiveness and a powerful witness to the transformation possible in Christ.

Budget Preparations for 2012

It’s budget preparations in our churches and also for us as at Home Office.  Together we do ministry to the tune of 7 million dollars plus a year, together we administer 1 million of that through our shared budget.  Attached is a “Narrative Budget” that helps tell the story of what we do together.  We anticipate bringing a second draft to General Council at the end of December.  You still have time to speak into the discussion and help shape it.

The videos below give you a glimpse of the breath of our work together and highlight some specific ministries.

You can donate to many of these ministries online by clicking here or you can send a cheque to our home office address.
