Hurricane in Belize

Hurricane made landfall
Received October 25, 2010, late afternoon
From Pastor Henry Redekopp, Shipyard Belize

I want to thank you again for your prayers. Yesterday evening Hurricane Richard made landfall approximately 20 miles south of Belize City with sustaining winds of 90 mph.
This morning I connected with friends in the city, and they said that damage in the city was less than expected.  There is a lot to clean up and businesses will have to replace or repair signs outside that have blown away or broken.  However, they were still without electricity this morning.

In-land the storm centered across Spanish Lookout where Walter Thiessen said this morning that some roofs had blown off and a lot of damage to the trees, and loss of electricity.  In Shipyard there is no visible damage.  We are far enough north that we missed the bulk of the storm.  Thanks again for praying,

Preparing for Hurricane
Received Sunday, October 24, 2:30pm
Right now we are preparing for Hurricane Richard.  At 1:00 p.m. our time the report showed that Richard was 55 miles east of Belize City with sustainable wind of 85 mph, and traveling at 13 mph. That means that unless it changes its course, it will hit land near Belize City early this evening.  We (Shipyard) are more in-land and hope that the winds will have reduced by the time it hits us. But it looks like we will likely see hurricane strength wind in-land as well. So again, we invite you to pray with and for us, and especially for those living by the coast.  Many of the homes in Belize City are not built very well, which means that some may be homeless after the storm.
