Date: January 18th, 2012
Many of our churches and individuals participate in short-term mission opportunities. This document was developed around the local church being the ‘sending’ agency. This is a guideline and can be adjusted to individual congregation needs and opportunities.

In October I was able to hear two experts present “hot of the press” studies exploring the trends we are seeing in the church in North America. Below are a few slides that illustrate key trends in Canada as presented by Rick Hiemstra, Director, Research and Media Relations, EFC.
49 of us from Go Mission! Churches will be gathering from Nov. 15-17 to prayerfully learn what Christ would have us do in response to the trends we are seeing.

The following video is an introduction to the book “When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself.” This book has been studied by some of our missionaries in the city of Winnipeg and also in Bolivia. Many organizations like Compassion Canada are also affirming the validity of the principals discussed.

On Nov. 18 our General Council will be discussing a Philosophy of Missions – Draft 2_5 for us as Go Mission! We invite your prayer and input as we seek to understand how to engage in mission in a God honoring way.
